Merricks Organic Farm was the winner of the 2001 Soil Association's Organic Food Award for Box Scheme. Now in its fifteenth year the awards search out the best in organic food and drink while looking to raise awareness about organic food.
A team of 50 judges including Antonio Carluccio, actor Peter York, Sophie Grigson and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, have between them sampled the entries and visited organic farms across the country.
Jane and Simon Brooke, both 43, of Merricks Organic Farm, Langport, with a selection of their organic crops. The couple, who have been farmers for just eight years, beat rivals from across the UK to win the Box Scheme of the Year award. The accolade was bestowed as part of the National Organic Food Awards. Mr Brooke said the idea behind the box scheme is to provide customers with a direct local source of vegetables.
